Lundy Projects designed, fabricated and installed signal gantries on the Eastern and Western approaches to London Bridge station, working collaboratively with our client and Network Rail as one team.

There was a real sense of achievement for all teams in designing, fabricating and installing structures that haven’t previously been done; one signal gantry of 30mspan was designed, fabricated and installed in 8 weeks. Innovations included the design of a universal, symmetrical signal mounting bracket that can’t be installed incorrectly and fits all signal gallery arrangements, and the design of underfloor cable management with hinged flooring: this allows operatives to lay cables in trays and have one half of the floor panels closed for standing on and one half open for laying cables, and was so successful that Network Rail requested the design be used on further projects.

Most structures were sited on a Victorian viaduct which presented challenges, along with having to design foundations within, and cantilevering over, parapet walls. Our client and Network Rail congratulated us on the innovations and a safe and successful project.
